Dr. Sevin Gallo and Chef Aria Kagan will take a deep and delicious dive into ancient Greece. Dr. Gallo will kick off the Ancient Greek
Feast community class by sharing wild stories about Greek culture, the Symposium and
the ancient art of feasting. In the Greek tradition of community and conversation,
Aria and Sevin will share a Greek table filled with small plates (Meze) of vibrant
food. No alcohol will be served.

About Dr. Gallo:
Dr. Gallo is a professor of world history at NWACC. She teaches history through the
lens of food for the NWACC Honors Program. Her classes meet at Brightwater: A Center
for the Study of Food and at local restaurants. In these non-traditional environments,
students examine different historical processes while considering how food systems
and food culture shape the human experience.
Sevin has a Ph.D. in modern Middle East/world history from the University of Akron
in Ohio. Her research focuses on gender, nationalism, popular culture and state-formation
in the Kurdish regions of the Middle East---particularly Turkey. She also does comparative
research and teaches the history of Latin America. She has a BA and MA in European
history from Kent State University. In addition to teaching world history, Sevin
works as the Global Studies Associate of Arts degree coordinator at NWACC, and she
leads study abroad programs focused on the Mediterranean World that travel to Greece,
Turkey, Spain, and Morocco.
About Chef Aria:
Aria began her culinary career at her parent’s restaurant at the age of 10. As her
interest in cooking grew, so did her passion for farms and local ingredients. Her
love for food led her to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. She also
holds a holistic health coaching degree from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition
in New York. Aria moved to Bentonville one year ago from Miami, Florida. She worked
as a private chef for the last 15 years cooking and traveling with clients. She now
teaches world cuisine at Brightwater and is excited to have the opportunity to teach
the next generation of culinary professionals.
