About B Workforce
Due to the generosity of the Walton Family Foundation, Brightwater is able to offer FREE training through its B Workforce program to individuals
interested in beginning a career in the food industry.
The Brightwater Workforce Development Program is an intensive 8-week course designed to prepare you for success in a live commercial
kitchen environment. This hands-on training program takes you through the fundamentals
of professional kitchen operations, combining classroom instruction with real-world
practical experience.
Throughout the course, participants engage in structured lessons, guided demonstrations, and practical assignments that mirror the pace and standards of a working kitchen. From knife skills and food safety to time management, teamwork, and service execution, the program builds a strong foundation in both technical ability and professional discipline.
Led by a seasoned Chef with extensive industry experience, this program offers high-level
training in a supportive but demanding environment. It is designed for individuals
who are committed to developing the core skills, confidence, and work ethic required
to thrive in the culinary industry.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE:
Classroom & Kitchen Training
Under the instruction of a Brightwater (NWACC) faculty member, you will be introduced to foundational culinary skills such as knife skills, kitchen safety, and different cooking methods.
Classroom training consists of 15 hours of classroom/lab time per week taking place Wednesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
A typical day consists of:
- 5 hours of instruction per day, including demonstrations, practical application, and theory.
- Training in a live commercial kitchen environment, focusing on cleanliness, organization, and essential kitchen skills to develop strong, reliable team members.
- Classes are held 3 days per week.
- Homework assignments are issued daily to reinforce learning.
- Everything you prepare in class, you take home.
